Solid Rock Christian Preschool started in 2003 our goal has always been to
provide a great “first school experience.” We are more than daycare and
worksheets. Our philosophy is based on a 3-prong approach: Academic, Biblical and Social.
We primarily use ABEKA a Christian curriculum that introduces number concepts and math readiness skills. Phonics-based reading readiness pages are full of carefully sequenced activities in recognition, sound, and formation of vowels (long and short), consonants, consonant-vowel blends, and one-syllable words of one or two vowels.
The curriculum is designed to introduce Biblical truths and to help each child understand and develop godly character traits. Formal learning takes place during "circle time" as God's truths are taught through Bible stories and memory verses, and then reinforced through songs, finger plays, discussions, and role-play. Character development is emphasized through stories and Bible verses as well as through classroom social interaction where children learn to share, take turns, solve problems, and verbalize needs and emotions. Bible lessons are taken from Scripture Bites. (Thematic Bible Units for Preschoolers by Standard Publishing Co.)
We realize that in order for children to be successful in school and in life it is important for them to develop strong character qualities. We emphasize character traits through formalized teaching and our daily nurturing environment.
- Responsible: Cleaning up after oneself.
- Patient: Waiting one’s turn.
- Polite: Saying, “Yes, please,” and “No thank you.”
- Friendly: Smile at one another and use kind words.
- Fair: Learning to share.
- Good Listener: Obeying authority figures.
- Cooperative: Working together to get the job done.
- Honest: Always telling the truth.
